What sources Does Central Drug Testing Use?

Central Drug Testing uses four different sources for drug testing: Urine, Saliva, Hair, and Blood

Urine testing is the most common screening method and detects recent use, typically within the previous three days. It’s also the only testing method approved for federally mandated testing. Businesses rely on laboratory-based urine testing for its cost-effectiveness, ability to test for a wide variety of drugs, and its long-standing record of legal defensibility.

Saliva Testing or Oral fluid testing offers confidential lab-based drug test results from an easy-to-use oral fluid collection method. By using oral fluid instead of urine, donors can collect and cap their samples on-site and in the presence of a monitor, reducing the likelihood of tampering or a donor challenge later in the screening process.

Hair Testing will give you a longer look back period to detect the use of drugs going back about 90 days. Hair growth is fed by the bloodstream, and the ingestion of drugs of abuse is revealed by analyzing a small sample of hair. Our testing methods measure the drug molecules embedded inside the hair shaft, eliminating external contamination as a source of a positive test result. We have not found any adulterants that can beat a hair drug test at this time. Commonly used hair products (shampoos, conditioners, sprays, mousses, gels, etc.) are typically removed during our wash procedures and have no significant effect on drug testing results. Moreover, much like oral fluid, the risk of cheating is minimized because every hair testing collection is directly observed.

What Drugs Do We Test for?

The most popular instant test is the 5-panel urine test. It’s similar to a DOT urine test. The test screens for Marijuana, Amphetamines, Phencyclidine, Cocaine and Opioids

The 10 panel urine test is the second most popular drug test. It covers the majority of illicit drugs. It screens for AMP-Amphetamines (MAMP-Methamphetamine, MDMA-Ecstasy), COC-Cocaine, PCP-Phencyclidine, THC-Marijuana, BZO-Benzodiazepines, BAR-Barbiturates, MTD-Methadone, PPX-Propoxyphene, Meth – Methaqualone, OPI-Opiates (including heroin, codeine, and morphine) and expanded Opiates which adds Hydrocodone, Hydromorphone, Oxycodone and Oxymorphone.

The remainder of the tests seem to be some variation of the above tests either by hair, saliva or urine.

What is Instant testing/Point of Collection testing(POCT)?

POCT or Point of Collection Testing is urine testing for 4-12 different drugs. The actual drug screen is done IMMEDIATELY. If the test is negative, the results are reported immediately. If the test is non-negative, the specimen is sent on for confirmation testing and specimen validity testing. The non-negative results can take 2-4 days. POCT is not allowed for DOT testing. What is EtG Testing/ Urine Alcohol testing?

Ethyl Glucuronide (EtG) is a direct metabolite of alcohol excreted in the urine. The presence of EtG indicates ingestion of alcohol within the last 5 days. It does NOT test for impairment. EtG is only present when alcohol has been consumed- it is not present in non-drinkers. This test is ideal for zero tolerance and abstinence situations. Alcohol treatment programs and Court ordered monitoring programs for Urine EtG acts as an early warning system to detect trends towards a relapse.
